The 2003-04 away shirt was also used as the third shirt in 2004-05. The red and navy flashes on the sides and shoulders of this white shirt work really well. In 2003-04 Liverpool finished in fourth position in the Premier League, in what was to be Gérard Houllier's last season in charge of Liverpool, before being replaced by Rafael Benítez. Finishing fifth in Benítez's first season, Liverpool went on to win the 2004–05 UEFA Champions League, beating A.C. Milan 3–2 in a penalty shootout after the match ended with a score of 3–3.
